We are looking for an electrical engineer, passionate about integration. Reporting to the CTO, you will be responsible for the design, test, and integration of large complex robotics & automation systems. You’ll take designs from concept to production and work cross functionally with all engineers at Saturday connect our hardware and software efforts as we head to head to production

Responsibilities:

  • Electrical control system design, component specification and documentation for automation. Making determinations for COTS vs Custom designed hardware

  • Schematic design of power, safety, IO, stepper motor and servo motor circuits for both PLC and PC controlled machines.

  • Designing panel and component layout of industrial electrical control cabinets

  • Perform wiring and pneumatic layout of full machines (both PLC and PC controlled machines).

  • Partnering with Mechanical & Software Engineering leadership to develop and execute test plans and protocols to verify system functionality, performance, and reliability

  • Programming to include controllers, operator interfaces, VFD’s and servo motion with COTS and Custom electronics

  • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot issues that arise during the development and production phases

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering and emerging technologies, and apply them to improve product design and development processes.

  • Hands on cabling/wiring harness design, documentation, fabrication & installation

  • Instrumentation and monitoring of automation equipment with associated KPI/performance reporting via Tableau, Power BI, DOMO or similar

  • Implement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other automation equipment

  • Participate in risk assessments, DFMEA and FMEDA

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in designing and integrating in a production environment

  • In-depth knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A)

  • In-depth knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA)

  • Experience building & programming industrial equipment, including safety PLCs, HMI/GUI (Ignition), field bus networks (Ethernet, ProfiNet, EtherCat and Safety rated field bus networks), and communications between machine PLCs and database systems

  • Ability to program state machines for complex processes that involve multistation parallel processing, pick and place automation, data acquisition, and PID control. Proven ability to design fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery

  • Experience in high voltage analog power distribution & management

  • High-performance CPUs, high-speed data interfaces

  • Digital signal processing, closed loop control systems

  • High-voltage, Low-Voltage, wireless, and/or RF design

  • C/C++/Python coding experience (e.g., device driver and diagnostic code)

  • Familiarity with common robotics sensing modalities, such as monocular and stereo vision, structured light, and time-of-flight

  • Knowledge of CAN and LIN communication

  • SCADA System design and implementation

Nice-to-haves:

  • Schematic capture and PCB design

  • Solid understanding of contemporary electronic technologies

  • Working knowledge of electrical components and circuits, taking into account factors such as performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.

  • Multidisciplinary (mechanical & electrical) “hands on” technical aptitudes.

  • Experience with safety and EMC regulatory standards and agency testing

  • Automation Process Simulation

  • Robotics/Automation Facility Layout

  • Direct experience working in the robotics & automation industry or similar large capital equipment

Due to the nature of the job, we expect the majority of your working time to be spent in our office and R&D headquarters located in Watertown, MA. We are close to:

  • Between convenient exits on Route 20 & I-90
